To kick start Clockenflap Music’s series with Yeti Out, the music collective teams up with Hong Kong-based documentary crew Likew1se for a series of live showcases. Taking place at a DIY warehouse in Hong Kong’s industrial district Lai Chi Kok, “Likewise Sessions” took place across three days with three local bands. Armed with nothing but a 14 track mixer, crates of beer and instruments, the jam-sesh-turned-dance party showcased some of the city’s most promising raw talent.

(which stands for “Drifters of South Asia”) release a self-titled LP on Silk Road Sounds, distributed by LA’s Alpha Pup Records (home to Flying Lotus, Thundercat, etc). Adding a kick of synth-heavy dance to Hong Kong’s post-punk scene, the debut record is a satirical love affair with the city that never sleeps and pays homage to the forgotten Canton folk style “Namm Yam” – which is a specific singing style that circulated Hong Kong’s opium dens and brothels before fading away in the 1930’s due to government crack down.
Always exploring new sounds, 南洋派對 N.Y.P.D. delve into a mellow hybrid electronic set in departure from their usual high energy mosh pits. The extended, improvised performance reworked their debut LP’s singles “Gai Gai” and “18/F” amongst others, in a laidback spontaneous stance. Offset by the dimly-lit warehouse ambience, the boys explore soundscapes in two parts 0:00 and 8:30, cutting through syncopated layers with synth, samples and canto slang.
